Retinoid + benzoyl peroxide

Keep them apart

Keep them apart. Benzoyl peroxide can oxidize and weaken some retinoids (like retinol), and used at the same time the two over-irritate: dryness, redness, peeling.

The fix is a schedule, not a sacrifice. Use benzoyl peroxide in the morning and your retinoid at night. Both still work; your barrier keeps its composure.

One exception: adapalene is stable next to benzoyl peroxide, so that pair can share a routine. If your retinoid is adapalene, you have more room.

New to either one? Introduce a single active at a time and patch-test. And if you're on isotretinoin, skip strong or drying actives like these unless your dermatologist says otherwise - your skin is fragile right now.
