Benzoyl Peroxide

What it does

Targets the bacteria that turn clogged pores into red, angry pimples. Start at the lowest 2.5% strength - it works about as well as higher strengths with far less irritation. It can bleach fabric, so watch towels and pillowcases.

How to use it

Dab on active pimples as a spot treatment, or use as a short-contact wash. Morning is the natural slot if your nights belong to a retinoid.

What not to mix it with

• retinoids (except adapalene) - see Retinoid + benzoyl peroxide
• vitamin C (same session) - see Vitamin C + benzoyl peroxide
• sulfur (same session) - see Sulfur + benzoyl peroxide

What it gets along with

Fine with hydrators and moisturizer - buffer generously, because dryness is this ingredient's main cost.
